I'm taking nine AP tests, 4 1/2 of which (the 1/2 is BC Cal) are self-studied. One of the self-studied is Human Geography, and I have learned very little of the material. Should I try and cram this in and possibly sacrifice some points on the other eight? Or would it be OK to just forget about Human Geography and perfect the other subjects?

Also, is it OK to not report an AP score on your application?

AP Human is a hit-or-miss usually. It’s known for being an easy exam, except it can be complicated if you do not know the general information (although much of it is common sense).

You can cancel a grade (colleges won’t see it); however, this often looks worse than the actual grade to colleges, who think you just didn’t bother to prepare at all.

No, you can hide the grade after you have taken it, but THEN this looks bad to colleges. However, if you cancel the score by the 15th, NOBODY will know you took it - it’s as if you never did take it.

I think the people above meant that not self-reporting would look bad only if you took the class for the test. Since you’re self-studying, it’s fine.

Ah, thanks cyberchondriac. So I think I still won’t studdy, but I’ll take it, might as well, just not report it if it’s too terrible.

And what’s the whole thing about having to take the test if you’re in an AP class? My high school isn’t too shabby, but only like… 1/3 of people in AP classes take the tests, and 1/5 of those who take it, pass it. That’s really not fair if colleges view taking AP tests as a personal reflection, because at high schools like mine, passing an AP test involves learning a lot of subject matter on your own.

OHHH. Good point. I completely forgot about that. Yeah, it’s not as big a deal since you’re not taking the actual class. Just take it, see how you do, and cancel it if it’s bad. No harm.

I think you should at least read the Barron’s book once and memorize the models (which is not hard at all). Human Geography has been my favorite ap subject and studying it goes fast. There’s not much to learn, so don’t just ignore it completely or you will regret it at a later time when you see how easy it is to learn it.
