Drop out question

If a Cadet leaves(drops out) of West Point is there anything about continued service in the Army for 4 years? This is a topic of discussion and we really have no idea what the answer is. Thank you.

If a cadet decides to “separate” (drop out) from the Academy, they go through a lengthy process that takes several weeks. They move to different barracks during this time and are not with the corps. What determines if there is a service obligation is the prior history of the cadet. If the cadet is in their first two years at the Academy there will be no service obligation. Beginning the first day of the third year (Cow year, i.e. a junior) incurs a service obligation. Also, if a cadet was prior service, they might have a remaining obligation depending on their status before starting at the Academy. Those are the basic answers.
