drop philosophy and take economy online? highschool

I have to take a social science this second semester. I am taking psychology all year and took Anthropology first semester. This semester I’m supposed to take philosophy but I dont really like it. It is a requirement for the my second diploma, so these classes count as electives which sucks. I was wondering if it was convenient to drop philosophy and take economy online since they don’t offer it at my school.

Pros of Changing
-i think i would find economy more interesting.

  • i could finish the course quickly and earn a lot of time for other things.
    -the philosophy tracher is really good and smart, but he is a very harsh grader and online course is an easy grade.

Cons of Change

  • i dont know if colleges dislike online courses, maybe they do.
    -i dont know if Id be missing something in philosophy since it helps you think a lot.
  • an online course is like $150

So are you a high school student? Confused by the ‘second diploma’ idea since high school students in the US usually get just one diploma when they complete the required coursework to graduate.

In any case, colleges have no problem with reputable on-line courses from accredited universities and colleges. (My D took an advanced math class using Johns Hopkins on-line courses. No problem from any school.) The question is whether your high school will accept the coursework as meeting the requirement for the diploma.

I think economics is a critical subject which everyone ought to take in either high school or college - but if the philosophy teacher is really good, you might want to view the class as a challenge you want to take. Consider approaching him or her for additional assistance and discussion, as it will enrich both your analytical skills and your life.

Philosophy provides an excellent foundation for every other subject, especially with an excellent teacher. You’re lucky to have it available. So I guess your choice comes down to which you value more, grade or learning.

Take philosophy. It is the most useful class someone can take in high school.
