I just finished my second year at a UC and realized I’m not happy here. I’m not 100% content with the major I have declared and cannot change majors because I will go over the unit cap.
I should have applied to schools last November but was foolish not to. I also don’t think I was ready at the time. I feel more prepared now.
Is it possible to transfer or drop out of this university and attend a community college to take courses relevant to my desired area of study? Will I be able to apply competitively to UCs and CSUs still if I go this route?
Going to a CC now will be a big detour - you’ll be bumping into unit caps and few of the competitive CSUs/UCs take many Spring transfers.
i’d petition to change majors where you are or add a second major.
I would double check about changing majors where you are.
I did not attend a public university in California. However, I certainly did know people who changed their majors later than the end of their sophomore year. They ended up having to take more than four years to graduate. They also ended up having to take more than 120 units in order to fulfill the major-related requirements to graduate. However they did it, and they did graduate with the major that they wanted.
