Out of sheer curiosity, why do students dropout from college, and what happens to them?

Which schools have the highest dropout rates? Just curious, I know that Steve Jobbs, and Bill Gates droped out. LOL.

The large majority drop out due to academic difficulty. Some drop out for financial reasons. many transfer to a less expensive or easier college. Some drop out because their interests change and they want a different school for a different major. Some have family problems. Some have problems with drugs or alcohol or depression.

But mostly it is bad grades. Poor motivation. Poor preparation for college. Lack of discipline.

I’m not sure whether dropout rates are released; the graduation rates do not reveal dropout rates because the former include those who transfer out (transfers obviously didn’t drop out completely–just transferred to a different school).

The overwhelming majority leave for financial reasons/family situations (often involving health care or illnesses).

For top colleges, make a list with the percentage of Pell Grant or near-Pell Grant students, turn it upside down, and you’ll have something close to the four-year graduation rates.
