I'm a Biology major and I'm doing awful in Organic Chemistry 1. I did the math and there's no way I'm passing that class unless I get perfect scores on the last test and the final (which is very unlikely). Even if I get low A's I won't pass.

Has anyone gone through this process? Is it hard to get approved by the dean or the people authorized to sign for the dean?

I have no extenuating circumstances, but I would rather get a W than a D or an F.

The big issue will be whether dropping the course will result in you falling off track for your major or if it will drop you below 12 credits worth of classes.

It looks like you have to complete Organic Chemistry I by the end of your 6th semester to stay on track in Biology. If you fall off course it may be a bigger issue than anything.

However, if you’re that far beyond help, there’s no harm in talking to the Dean about dropping a course. I doubt that they will say no, given that this is a pretty difficult class. Just keep in mind that with it being required for Bio, you’re going to have to take it at some point (as well as Organic Chemistry II).
