So I got in ucsc and plan on going there. The only reason I was takig a speech class was for csu's but I'm positive I'm not going there anymore and don't want to keep taking it. Would I be able to drop my speech class and still be okay? I can still drop it without a W. I plan on calling sc tomorrow but does anyone know abot this from experience? Thanks!

If you’re still over 60 units after dropping it and you’re not even going to receive a W, I cant see why not. Couldn’t hurt to ask, but I’m sure you’d be fine.

Nevermind just checked and I will get the W I’ll still be way over 60 units and it has nothing to do with my major but guess I’ll have to stick it out :(

Its best not to get a W if you can avoid it, but its not the worst thing in the world.

You can drop, won’t do anything since its not even a UC-transferable course.

UCSC Admission worker#1: OH. MY. GAWDDDDDD!
Admission worker #2: What?!

1: This guy is taking a Speech class!!

2: OMG, NO WAY.

3: Whatz going here guyz?

2: ONE OF THE APPLICANTS IS TAKING A SPEECH CLASS

3: My god, ADMIT HIM.

2: ADMIT HIM.

1: OKAY, I ADMITTED HIM

1: It’s not even UC-Transferable

Speech, one helluva class

It is uc transferable though…

@lawlking: I think you’re confusing UC-Transferable with satisfying a UC requirement.

oh shiet

my bad, thought it was one of those none-transferable classes

Hi socali909 I think you should stick with it. The consequences of dropping the class is just not worth it tbh. I think you should just stick around and just try to grind it out

Just called admissions and they told me as long as I still have IGTEC and 60+ units by the end of spring it should NOT be a problem. I just need to update my application (it’s open until the end of this month) with the W.

anyone else know anything about this maybe?

I talked to an admissions counselor about this type of scenario last week and she told me it’s all good as long as you have 60 plus units and IGETC completed. I think you should drop it if you don’t feel like going.

Thanks, Chelz. Was this at smc?
I called to the rep for my area (she was a lot more helpful) and she specifically said “We can’t reject you because you got a W”. People run into problems when they drop a class and realize they won’t have 60 units because of it OR if it’s a pre req or igetc class.

I’m in the same situation as you are! Got admitted into UCSB and thinking of drop couple of my classes. So I called UCSB to find out whether it would harm my admission. One of the lady there was helping me said it’s not a problem if I have over 60 units. She even told me I don’t have to finish my Igetc to transfer to a UC after being admitted.
