Dropping a class once accepted

I was accepted Early Decision, but I want to drop one of my electives: Food Science Technology. It is a total blow off class and I would rather have an off campus period. Will this cause Rice to rescind my admission decision? I've talked to several Rice students who say no, but I don't want dropping this class to affect my standing with Rice.

Call the admissions office -- do not rely on CCers for accurate info

But when I visited campus I talked to people who had dropped classes like AP Calculus after being accepted.. hmm

That's silly, they don't care that much lol...I think you'll be fine

It is a problem only if you applied as a food science major.

You should notify them, definitely. I'm sure they'd let you drop that...

If you drop any classes, your high school is obligated to inform Rice that you have done this.
My D was accepted to WashU via early notification but not ED and the acceptance letter stated that she must NOT drop any of her current courses.
I would definitely contact Rice about this as they may not have the same requirements.

you never get rescinded from a college for droppin a class unless they say you must not.

i dropped a class and my counselor said rice will give me a "hard time" (which i dont know how) but will not rescind me...

Ok so is calling a bad idea? Or should I just claim ignorance?

Email them, then?

Ill just suck it up and call tomorrow. Thanks everyone for the input

they usually do not answer email. If they do, it'll take weeks.
