Dropping a Class right before Transferring

So I am currently a transfer student about to transfer to UCLA in the Fall. I registered for a class and put it on my Transfer Application Update so UCLA does know that I am taking this class currently. However, I want to drop one of these classes because it is not part of major and I also have enough units to transfer in order to focus more on my internship and work before I transfer. Also, I do not believe I will do well in the class so I would prefer to drop with a ‘W’ rather than receive a possible failing grade. I reached out to UCLA already but they stated that they do not respond to “hypothetical situations.” So basically, I have to either drop the class and await their response (hopefully they do not rescind my admission) or just stay in the class (and possibly get a failing grade). What can I do at this point? I have heard other people tell me to just drop the class, since it is not part of my major and UCLA typically doesn’t care as much for classes that are not part of a student’s major. Also, is dropping a class because I think I am going to fail/not do well in the class reason enough to drop it?

Certain to fail - good reason to take the W.

Not good enough grade - that depends on the grade and whether the course is required for graduation or for your major.

This happened to me! I was taking a math course that wasn’t really required for my major. I basically just wanted to take it to expand my mathematical foundation of knowledge. I had some really bad health issues that semester. I was in and out of the ER. I would usually go in on Fridays as not to interfere with the majority of my classes. This math class only met on Saturdays, so I was often way too exhausted to pay attention or even attend. I failed the first two exams. Rather than risk failing, I just dropped the course and never mentioned it to UCLA or other schools where I had been accepted. I was not rescinded. Of course, you might want to tell them after you’ve dropped the course, but you don’t necessarily have to if it’s not an important course. You should be fine
