I’m doing pretty poorly in physics right now and I was wondering if dropping the class as a second semester senior would matter? Colleges are sending their decisions back this week so would they even care?
If you have a schedule change Senior year, then you need to notify each school. I would not drop a class unless you get an OK from each school.
Yes, colleges care about schedule changes. Dropping a class can be a reason for an acceptance to be rescinded. Think long and hard before doing it. If you feel you can get a C or better in the class I would keep it and get extra help from teacher, a tutor, online resources such as Khan academy etc. when needed.
If you want to consider dropping a class you should:
- First check with any school you have been accepted to and are considering attending to be certain that dropping the class will not cause your acceptance to be rescinded or re-evaluated. If a college’s admissions office says it is OK to drop the class be sure to get it in writing.
- For colleges you haven’t heard from you should let them know of your schedule change in writing and ask if it is OK (get answer in writing) or wait until you have an admissions decision and follow instructions above.
Colleges DO care. What you are proposing is “bait & switch”. Follow the advice of happy1 and gumbymom. Less selective schools will write you back and tell you to do what you think is best, but selective schools and those with long wait lists will “review your application”. If you can get a C or better in the class, stick with it.
Yes. Follow the advice above.
- Definitely you need to let the colleges know. Will you meet the recommended coursework?
- What is your potential major? If STEM, you need to suck it up. Look at this for ideas on how to change how you study: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-life/1920853-college-is-a-step-up-from-hs-16-tips-on-doing-well-in-college.html

Will you meet your HS graduation requirements?

In any case, talk to your parents/Guidance counselor
Thanks for the help everyone, I got my grade up so we’re all good:)
