Dropping a class with a W?

Hey everyone,

Sorry I've been posting a lot of threads, but I'm set on going to UCSB and want to make sure I get everything right so I don't have to flip at the last minute. My question this time is this:

I am entering UCSB as a Freshman with a Pre-Computer Science major at the College of Engineering. My GPA is not very impressive, and my SAT score is at 2100. I am taking Physics AP right now and 2nd semester we are learning about the more difficult subjects such as Electromagnetism and Electric Circuits. My grade is a low C right now (this is not at all due to senioritis but rather due to my very intense teacher) and may be at a legitimate risk of getting a D. Personally I am surprised that I got in, though I am sure my strong extracurriculars helped (IT certification tests, FBLA club tech-related competitions, etc.).

I am considering dropping the Physics AP class with a W as opposed to risk taking a D.. will I get rescinded? Is a W preferred over a D? I had the same concern with SJSU when I considered going there and they said I was most likely safe as I have also taken a Physics Honors course (C average) as well as taking the SAT II Physics test (640). Thoughts?

Thanks!

If you have to drop you need to tell them. You could assure them that you will take the class at your local community college during the summer to show that you are dedicated :)

i’d take the withdraw over risking the D. but do inform them or ask them b4 hand

I agree with keltix.
