Dropping a Class

I just enrolled in a program to get a second undergraduate degree (in a field unrelated to the first). I had originally signed up for four classes (12 credits), but due to time constraints, I want to drop one class (which would take me down to 9 credits).

Will this dramatically affect the subsidized loan amount that’s dispersed at the end of the month? (I don’t have any Pell Grants, so I’m only worrying about the loans.)

What’s considered full time? Ask your FA office. They will know.

12 credits is considered full time, 9 credits is considered 3/4 time. The girl at the financial aid office wasn’t able to tell me anything other than “you won’t be considered full time anymore.” But I have no idea what that means in terms of financial aid or if I need to contact someone or update paperwork.

You said “second undergraduate degree”.

I thought that after a bachelor’s degree you can no longer get need based aid like Pell or subsidized loans, only unsubsidized loans.

The OP said “only worried about loans”.

It looks like the full amount is still available. Perhaps @kelsmom can chip in to verify or @sybbie719

Yes, but OP mentioned subsidized loans.

I could be wrong, but I think I was able to get subsidized loans was because I didn’t take out any loans for my first degree.

Thanks for the link, Erin’s Dad.
