I've tried searching for the answer on the boards... couldn't find it so I was wondering if anyone can help me here...

I am a cc freshman who is considering dropping one class this semester. How will that impact me if I want to transfer to a school like UCB & UCLA in the future? This hopefully is my first and last class withdrawal.

oh yeah, that makes me nervous too- on a stupid stupid whim I enrolled in a 400 level research class that I later dropped this spring- sent my transcript to harvard and although my G.P.A is still good I feel like the dropped class will hurt my decision-dunno how tho- It just looks so nasty on one's transcript!

Yeah...I have one W in Calc from last spring. I'm trying to hope that it would seem excusable when I explained that the teacher was horrible, and I was taking 17 credits of all upper-level courses....while also trying to write a book independently. You had an interview, though, right bumpity? So they must not have cared that much.

well I had the interview before I sent in the (spring semester) transcript (it was faxed)and I asked that my school address it directly to the director of admissions- (dumb move-) I'm hoping they are impressed if anything since I'm a freshman- dunno- I did it without thinking-

I got mono my second semester and had to drop and accounting class and still got into good schools (g'town and bc). It may hurt you with the Ivy's (still waiting to hear from the one i applied to, so not sure), but with one W on your transcript you will be ok as long as you can give a reason why you did it.

so UClaRI is a W ALWAYS a bad thing-
guess I underestimated the magnitude of its ugliness
I mean, like in my case I was already taking three challenging classes and one easy class, did well in them all and dropped a 400 level class (I'm a freshman)- does it still luk ugly anyways? (Even tho I still had 16 credits after dropping the 400 level class)

What's ugly is using a 'u' instead of two 'o's in the word 'look...'

Anyway, yes. A W is always bad. There is no way it can ever be a good thing on your transcript. That doesn't mean that it's a mark of death, either. One W won't destroy your chances for anything.

heheh too lazy to put the two "o"s
I honestly didn't think it was a big deal when I sent my transcript with in fact two Ws to Harvard- One in Fitness swimming and one in polisci 402-
oh wells, what can I do-I sent in an explanation y-day but I guess decisions have already been made-

If it's just a one credit course, it's probably no big deal. I think that in general, if you drop more than two classes it starts to look bad...
