does a W look bad on your transcript to medical schools? i've been studying so much but im doing poorly on my calc 1 class. i know i have to take it again...plz help.

It certainly wouldn't look good.

1-2 W's will probably be okay. 3-4 W's will probably raise an eyebrow. 5+ W's will probably raise two eyebrows.

what about Getting a C in the class... is that better than getting a W in the class.

Here is what a friend told me who is on admissions com. for a medical school---most times when they see a W, they figure the grade would have been a C or less (of course don't actually calculate it in). Unless it is a medical withdrawal or you think you will receive less than a C--his advice was to avoid it.

I had questioned him on the thinking when my son was considering withdrawing from a Physics class--he stuck with it and actually did much better than he expected.

He also said the same thing as norcalguy--in other words save those W's for true "emergencies". Good luck with the Calc.

Ergin,
