dropping a class

I signed up for Comparative religions, a semester elective offered at my high school. Unfortunately as nice as the teacher is, he is intolerably boring, and a horrible educator - in an elective like this one, the teacher makes all of the difference. The class is also rather difficult and is bringing down my GPA. I know I should stick the class out, but if I were to drop it mid semester (past deadline drop date, end of first MP), how bad would it look? would it look like the equivalent of a study from the start? I'm a junior, and I'm thinking of applying to (easier colleges) penn state, rutgers, university of vermont, University of New hampshire, university of maine, lehigh, and (harder colleges) franklin and marshall, colgate, SUNY binghamton, McGill, bucknell . Im taking 3 honors/ap courses, my weighted GPA is a 3.9 (unweighted is 3.7), and my SAT scores are: Math 710, Reading 600, Writing 620. I work 12 hours a week and am active in my high school Key Club and Interact (community service clubs). Are my academic transcript, SAT scores, and extra curriculars strong enough for the easy schools to make them over look the drop? the harder ones?

any thoughts much appreciated
