...but as a curious and VERY paranoid new bruin, I wanted to confirm with older bruins about the dropping procedures...

Technically, I can drop a class my first week (I know we're given two weeks...) at ucla without any notification right? (This does apply to freshmen too, right?)

You have longer than two weeks if that class isn’t impacted. But you don’t need permission as long as you are before the date where you will receive a W. And yes, even freshmen can do this haha. Just make sure that you don’t fall below full time status.

I’m sorry for the redundant questions but do we pay per the unit or do we pay per the quarter? Also if we drop before the second week or fourth week whether they are impacted or not, there will be nothing shown on your transcript correct?

You pay per quarter. You could take one class and still pay the full quarter amount. And yes, if you drop before the “last day to drop without W”, nothing goes on your transcript.

You can actually request to pay lower tuition if you’re taking only 1 or 2 classes, not sure the procedure or what the actual amount is, but it’s reduced tuition.

As long as its not impacted I think you can drop till 4th week without a transcript notice. I had to do that once, but you can only add a class up till the end of 2nd week. Remembering that you need 12 units to be considered a “full time student”, you may want to be careful.

To more directly answer your question, I changed my entire schedule week 1 of my freshmen year with zero consequences. Don’t know what I was thinking at orientation…

True, but there are a lot of requirements to get the reduced tuition that aren’t easy to satisfy. Can’t remember what they are at the moment, just that I didn’t satisfy them haha.
