Would colleges rescind my application if I drop my third year of Spanish for AP computer science and an internship? My second semester just started and I want to know if I can do this. I haven’t taken Spanish for four years and I’m struggling on just the second day.
I wouldn’t worry about it. I mean you intended to take the course when you filled it out, so it’s not like you were lying or anything.
Are you sure? On my application I filled out and said I intended to take third year Spanish. Not AP CS and an internship. Is that still okay?
If you want a second opinion, I would say that you’re definitely fine. Colleges know that schedules are only intended, not concrete. I dropped two of my intended courses and took a class on emergency medical technology instead. Even with the schedule change, I have already been accepted into three schools. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Admissions counselors are regular people, and they know that things like this happen. Good luck on your application! (:
I’m also switching classes from my intended schedule. Would it be a bad idea to send an email to admissions informing them of the changes? Is that unnecessary?
I disagree. A course schedule change IS something that you need to notify colleges about. Our kids’ GC was very insistent on this point. In the OP’s case, since you are picking up an AP, you are probably okay.
Agree with all the above, with one caveat: Some colleges require third-year-level language courses in high school. If you’re applying to one of these, then dropping Spanish 3 (assuming you haven’t already taken, say, French 3) will mean you don’t meet their minimum requirements.
