Hi

I effed up a prelim.

If the situation is srsly bad (like if I get a 100% on everything else) I still pull below a B, is it better to drop?

I hear dropped courses appear on the transcripts. Do the dates appear as well?

Thank you

Jeez. How bad did you do? I’m not trying to be rude, just honest curiosity. Well, I know for Human Ecology we have until like, the 7th to drop with no record of it on our transcript. Not sure what college you’re in, but it’s probably close to the same dates. You can definitely look this up.

You have 7 weeks to drop without receiving a “W” on the transcript. I dropped a course about 6 weeks in and there is no record of it on my transcript.

If you truly need to score a 100 on subsequent exams to pass, but still have a grade below B, I would consider dropping.

[Cornell Math - Add/Drop](http://www.math.cornell.edu/Courses/add-drop.html)

I find out my prelim grade on Oct 5th, which would give me couple of days to think about whether to drop or not.

The Student Center says “A class dropped on or before this date (Oct 15th) will be retained on your academic record with a status of dropped.” Some other criteria says ‘retained on your TRANSCRIPT’ rather than academic record. What exactly does this mean?

i would drop if it won’t put you under 12 credits and if it’s not a big deal and you can just take it later

Cornell’s math prelims are heavily curved. You could get a 60 and still get a B. My daughter thought she bombed every one of her math prelims the first 2 years, and she always managed to get at least a B. The only thing I would warn you is your actual grade may drop if too many low performing students should drop because median grade could go up.

According to Math department drop/add website, you have until Oct 7th to withdraw without getting a W, so I would wait to get your first test back before you make any decision.

So if I don’t have a W then the transcript does not show that I have dropped this course?

^ yep, that is correct
