Dropping a course

Hello I am a senior high school student in Canada. I am currently taking Dramatic Art in my school. My drama teacher, however, does not teach us theater theories, but rather has us run productions. In addition, I am not getting a great mark in Drama, after working very hard. Frustrated, I want to drop the course. My counselor told me that if I drop it now, it's not going to show up on my transcript at all. But I realize that I have filled in the common application that I am taking Drama this year. Also I believe that my counselor has filled out the Secondary School Report saying that one of the courses I am currently taking is Dramatic Arts. If I drop it now, then the Midyear Report will not report anything about Dramatic Art. The colleges then will know that I drop the course.

I also report that Theater is one of my possible majors and how much I love it. It sounds so ironic that I have to drop this course. Regardless, my only concern is that if I drop it, will it affect my chance of getting in?

A little bump…

It’s not a core course, and your GC has told you that it won’t appear on your official transcript, not even as a W or I, if you drop it. So it’s hard to see why colleges would care.

The second question is “should you drop it” assuming it doesn’t matter for you college applications. You didn’t ask this question, but it is perhaps a question worth asking.

a little bump bump

If it won’t be on your transcript at all, let colleges know that you had a schedule change via email.
