Well I made a similar thread last year, only about geometry (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/1431726-76-honors-geometry-drop-stay.html). I'm at a 76 again in 1mp of algebra 2 honors (lol) but I don't think I will even be able to get a B+ for the year. My teacher recommends I drop down. My only concern is that it is ~12 days until the end of the first marking period, and I don't want I be stuck with a 76 in regular algebra 2 and end up with less than an A in regular math for the year.

The regular Algebra 2 clad goes off a different textbook, therefore in Algebra 2 honors, we have covered topics covered late in the year in the regular class. I have one mor test in the honors class this marking period, but I'm afraid ill make matters worse. I'm also worried that by dropping, I may get less than an A in the regular course as the honors grade gets carried over(despite being recommended for honors). How bad would it look with a B+ for regular math? I feel it would be an unfair assessment of my success in the regular class and and possibly detrimental to my admissions process. Any hell is appreciated! Thanks.

Last bump then I’ll let it die…

Hey mate, you need a reply so I have one for you. I’m currently a freshman in Algebra 2 H, and I was sort of in the situation you are in. I had a 95 in the class but the curriculum was complete bs and the teacher was full of you know what. The decision I took was to go online, it may show up on your transcript as such but no AdCom really cares. I’m taking he class online and it is sophisticated for the most part, and the teachers can always help. I have a 97 and learn the same things my real class counterparts do. The only con is a fee to learn online, it may or may not exist for your school but it won’t hurt to ask. My fee was $185 but my parents were fine with it. If you can afford it, to save your grade and avoid that B or C on your transcript, don’t be afraid to go for it.

Why would regular Algebra 2 be a struggle if it is so much easier?

You’ll have extra homework assignments from the new class, and that should boost your grade depending on how homework is graded where you’re from. If you don’t like the C, drop down, it’s as simple as that

RHS, it’s not that it would be challenging, rather it would be very difficult to recover from a 76 as a first quarter grade and then get an A.

Also to CollegeBound, the issue is hw is only an extra 1% onto your final grade of quarter so that won’t help me out too much.

@apandia, thanks for the response. Haven’t bough about that before.

Idk about your school, but on my school transcript, colleges don’t see individual marking period grades, only your final grade. So even if you get a B+ in regular math first marking period, it won’t show up on your transcript. But your school might work differently idk

Asd, my school is the same way but I’m concerned that going from doing pretty well in geometry honors and then getting only a B+ in reg math would look bad. If you drop down it should get easier, so my guess is it wouldn’t look well with a B or B+

But even if you get a b first quarter, you can end up with an a for your final average. That’s what happened to me. Colleges only saw my final a, not the b I got 3rd quarter
