Dropping AP Calculus

I'm taking AP Calculus right now. I'm thinking about not taking AP Calculus 2 for next semester. Im also taking AP Environmental Science and AP Economics in my senior year. How would this affect how my application is viewed by UC and also Ivy League school admissions?

Not well - many of these high end schools look for tough courseloads. Not to mention they get tons of apps with people who take all AP's with near straight A's. Why look at someone who dropped an AP? They will look into why you dropped that class and they might come to the conclusion that you couldn't handle it or didn't think you could continue to handle it. I suppose if you applied for...lets say...english dept or something and you hate math it might not look so bad but otherwise....meh. I wouldn't be as worried about UC's as I would be Ivy.

They really don't count environmental science as an AP- referred to as "AP Lite"
If you want UC and/or Ivy, as Spetsnaz said, you need a tough course load and dropping calc and having ES doesn't cut it for Ivies

remember, it's better to get a b in an AP course than an A in an nonAP course

AP or regular calc is much more significant on a transcript then Env Sci or Econ - those are electives and you should only do them if you have checked all the boxes on the classes that the college lists as 'recommended'.

I'm not sure if you should do this. I believe it is better to pull a B in a class like this if you are not strong in Math than to get an A in Envi. Sci. or Econ. I struggled for a while in Calc, but I have gotten a lot better with hard work-it will look a lot better for my grade to rise dramatically than to drop it. I also think it is good to have a difficult and diverse courseload (ie. language, science, math, english) in your senior year if possible.

Hi

The GC told my S that since she has already sent out his transcript to all his colleges, if he dropped a class, he would have to notify each college regarding the change. Not worth it for my S.
