Dropping AP Chem?

I'm a junior and I'm currently taking AP Chem and AP US History. My school allows us to drop any APs or electives during the first two weeks of school. I absolutely love AP US and the teacher, so i'm not going to drop that.

The thing is, I just got my first two ap chem tests back and they were in the 60s and 70s. that's really low compared to what i usually get. i understood all my classwork and homework, but i ended up getting a low grade.

my chem teacher isn't the best either. he doesn't teach and he obviously treats other students "better." he gave one of my classmates an extra 20 minutes to finish her test while the others didn't get that much time.

i've talked to seniors that have taken ap chem and they said that they wished they dropped it earlier. they all got either a 2 or a 3 on the test and they said that they didn't really learn anything. plus, ap classes in my school are NOT WEIGHTED. if i get a 75 average for ap chem on my report card, i can't be on honor roll.

if i were to drop ap chem, i would have SO much more frees and time to study for apush and my other subjects, especially that all my classes are honor classes. i still have to take physics along with ap chem because my school makes us take the physics regents for new york state.

the good things if i kept ap chem are that i can take the chem sat 2, my chem teacher kinda knows me more because he was my teacher last year, too, and supposedly any college class i'll take will seem easier after i "survive" chem.

i'm completely torn about this. i want to be a biochemistry major in college, maybe go on to med school, and i LOVE science. but the work seems too much for me.

Drop beats, not bombs.

Perhaps you could drop AP Chem, and take Community College chemistry instead.

Or take an online course.

Just drop it. it is definitely not worth your well being and grades in other subjects

Are you sure you understood all the material? Sort of sounds like you’re not trying hard. Try using prep books, online resources, and whatnot.

Just drop it. And based on the seniors’ scores, it seems like the class isn’t worth the effort.

If you have many other APs, then drop it. If you only have AP Chem and APUSH, then dropping it would decimate your chances at a competitive school. For the vast majority of schools, rigor of your school record is the #1 factor in admissions.

AP Chemistry is ten thousand times easier than APUSH. I would recommend dropping APUSH instead, but you said you’re not going to do that so…
You just need to understand the concepts of Chemistry, and memorize formulas. Practice a couple problems so you get the methodology done, and you should be set. Really, for chemistry you don’t even need a teacher to get an A+ or a 5 on the AP test, just read the textbook.
