Hi all, I’m planning on dropping AP Comp Sci A for this term (term2) due to struggling immensely in that class. However, I’m already accepted into a college that I’m planning on attending, and don’t want to risk the chances of being rescinded. This is my sixth class and I have enough classes to drop this class as it’s an elective, and I finished all of my core classes and have enough credits to graduate. I already called the school twice on two separate days and also sent an email to check in with them to see if it’s okay to drop the class, but haven’t gotten a response yet. Term 2 will come to an end soon and I want to drop the class before it shows up on my transcript and hurt my GPA. What should I do?
Also, I didn’t have the prerequisites for this class. I had to check in with the director and my own teacher from junior year to allow me to take this class (I have an interest in Computer Science and also plan on majoring in it, but I think it would just be better for me to start in college instead from step 1).
I wouldn’t drop the class until you hear back from your college. If you drop without their blessing, they may view it as “bait & switch”, which tends not to go over well. Odds are they WILL let you drop it, but don’t do so prematurely.
Thanks for your reply @Groundwork2022 , if they’re not replying, what should I do? Just wait? I really doubt they would reply since I called them a couple times but still no luck. I was able to reach the admissions rep but not the counselors when the reps transferred the call to them.
My D’s college officially is already on xmas break with most offices closed until after the first of the year.
I agree with the advice to not drop until you get the school’s OK, especially if this is your intended major.
You can always start where you want in terms of course sequencing in college, even if you’ve had the AP in HS.
What is your definition of the word struggling? It is hard, and you likely will get a B? Or I have no idea what is going on and will likely get a D or F? If it is the first, you should stay in the class. Better to struggle your last semester of HS than the first of college.
@Eeyore123 Unfortunately I have an F at the moment. I got a mediocre C first term.
