Hey guys, I am doing dual enrollment math next year at a local Ivy. Super excited about this; but, now I have to drop a class in my schedule to make it fit, which is problematic since I feel like all are pretty important.
I’m leaning towards dropping AP physics because:
I kind of hate physics
I took honors physics frosh year
It’s the least vital class I’m taking next year imo
However I feel like this might be a bad move, since I want to major in compsci in college. Obviously that’s not physics-related at all, but it’s often in the engineering school, so physics probably would be looked favorably upon?? (Is it??)
Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks!
**Current schedule:
AP Spanish (4 years of language is important imo, plus I like Spanish)
AP Lit (cannot drop english bc grad requirement + v important)
AP Compsci
AP Physics
AP Stat (being forced to take this to be eligible to do DE plus it correlates w career goals i.e. datasci)
Honors Wind Ensemble
@lateststar124 Can’t, band is a pretty big part of my life and I need to be in the class to stay in marching band (which I am very dedicated to and most likely will be officer or drum major of)
You can drop physics. What math will you take? Math is wayy more important for comp sci and you already have physics from last year. Comp Sci counts as a science in some places but make sure to have the science credits you need for high school graduation and college admissions.
@CaliCash The dual enrollment program is only offered during the school year, if that’s what you’re referring to. @snowfairy137 I will be taking a proof-based course in either number theory or advanced calculus (applied to 2 and not sure which one I was accepted for). And yeah I have the # of years of science I need to graduate, and my top schools (Columbia, Princeton) don’t need 4 years of science. Idk about other schools but I will definitely do research into what they need.
Top schools will still expect 4 years of science…also make sure you have a safety that is affordable and you would be delighted to attend before you get too excited about Princeton.
I would take at least one AP science if you are looking at top schools.
Would you need to take physics in college?
