I was wondering what colleges would think if I dropped AP Psychology second semester. The rest of my classes are all honors and APs. Could they lower my chances?

And if I do drop it, how do I notify the college of my schedule change?

please help :)

It depends on the colleges you are applying to and why you’re dropping the class. If you’re dropping because you’re failing and there is no mitigating circumstances, it could affect admissions.

I have an A for the class, but I want to drop it because I want to leave school at lunch.

is that also a bad reason?

Call admissions where you’ve applied and ask them. The UC schools, for example, require you to notify them if you change your senior schedule. And even if you’re not required to notify them, some colleges may take it into account. Check.

As to bad reason, to be honest 5 years from now you’re unlikely to remember much from this class. And Psych 1 is offered at every college, so it isn’t like you can’t learn this material in the near future. On the other hand if there’s something you’d like to do during lunch, even just hang out with your friends, this is your last semester in HS so you’re never going to be in this set of circumstances again. So although I’m a proponent of education and all that, I’d advise that if it has no adverse effects on your college apps then do it!

Since your schedule is still rigorous, it probably won’t be a big deal, but you should talk to the admissions offices to make sure, especially at schools that have already accepted you. If you decide to drop the class, you do need to notify all of the schools you applied to.

I’d recommend not dropping the course, though. It’s just one more class, and as you’re clearly not struggling in it, it’s probably worth just sucking it up and going to class for another hour or whatever.
