The reason I’m posting this is that I’m not entirely sure what I should in my situation. I am a senior and am currently taking AP Stats, AP Gov, AP Research, Latin, Sports Med, and UW Chemistry/Biology. So, I am taking UW Chemistry, and lets just say the class is kind of a joke. UW Chem is a semester-long class, so we’ve only got about 3 weeks of class left, and I have not learned a single thing that I didn’t learn in my middle-school chemistry class. So, I’m signed up for UW Bio for second semester, and I’m not expecting to learn anything in that class either, so I’m planning on dropping that class before it starts and self-studying for the AP Biology Test. I am applying to mostly Ivy League schools, so do you think they will care about this, should I just send each college an email explaining what I’m doing, and why I’m doing. Any feedback would be appreciated.
You’re required to communicate any change to what you wrote in the application. If you were swapping to a course of the same rigor, they’d likely not care. Replacing it with nothing (and I include self study as “nothing”) may be an issue. If’s they have an issue, they will tell you.
Honestly, I would just keep the class. Otherwise you would have to inform every college you have applied to to that you are dropping bio next semester. I don’t think saying that you “haven’t learned a thing” in chemistry and expect the same in the bio class will reflect well on you – insulting classes/teachers is not a good look. And nobody will care about self-studying for the Bio AP (especially since you can still do that while taking the bio class).
