So I might drop Calc BC. Can colleges see this when I drop it? My friend asked like 4 ivy adcoms in person and he said they dont understand the difference between BC and AB, so don't tell me about course rigor.

What do you mean ‘drop it.’ Will you be doing AB? If you decide to switch down to AB, most colleges won’t care. Only ones that would would be MIT/CalTech.

I will do AB instead. Will they be able to do this? Its not a question of if I can do it, it is if I can do it without stressing massively trying to get all As cause im taking a lot of other hard classes.

Having taken both, there really isn’t much of a difference between them. Just Taylor Series and Polar Coord…

It won’t be much of a factor in admissions (even to top schools), but it might screw up your college placement. If you take AB, you’ll probably end up one extra semester of math, because you will be slightly behind [of where you could be].

Again, wouldn’t worry too much about it for admissions.

My question was if colleges view dropping a class negatively.

Also, thanks for confirming the idea that AB = BC in admissions.

I don’t think there would be anyway of them knowing if you dropped it this early in the school year.

Thanks. This was very helpful

I’m baffled how any of the responders to your question know what your specific school does with a “dropped” course when your registrar provides your transcript to colleges. I’m also baffled why you don’t ask the registrar or GC in your school how a dropped course appears on the official high school transcript. They are the only ones who know :-(
