Dropping Calculus?

Last semester, I was really struggling with my calculus class but luckily, I ended up getting a B for the semester. However, in the 3rd quarter, I currently have a D and I don’t think I will be able to bring it up any higher than a C. I’m doing everything I can to make my grade better. I’m doing homework, studying, taking notes, and even having a tutor come over every week; but nothing is helping. This will greatly impact my semester grade because even if I do well 4th quarter, my overall second semester grade will be bad. I want to drop calculus because I don’t want to have a bad grade on my transcript, but I know that this doesn’t look good to colleges. I’ve already been accepted into the university of my choice, but will dropping calculus change anything? Will it hurt me during my undergrad or graduate degree? Should I try to retake the second semester online? I’m really nervous about this and I want to make the right decision. Any input is appreciated. Thank you!!!

Not sure. A family member of mine dropped calculus after first semester in order to preserve her class rank and scholarship, and it worked out well. But that was a handful of years ago and it really depends on the school you’re going to, I presume.
Sorry that I couldn’t be more helpful! Best of luck!

Others will have better information, but I would check to see if Calculus will be required in your major (if known) at the college you will be attending. If it is you may want to see if your teacher or a classmate or two can help you get through this semester? They may be able to fill in where the tutor is missing. Sorry you are going through this…it may be good to experience now as you may find yourself like many others do, struggling in a course in college. Best wishes!

Call the college and ask them how they feel about you dropping the class.

Well in the long run it might hurt but I agree best thing you could probably do is contact the college! Good luck!
