Dropping class

Okay so I am a freshman in college and have financial aid. And have a class that I know that I will fail. Should I drop that class or continue to take it. Also if I drop it will it affect my financial aid and gpa?

GPA: If your school has a “late-drop” deadline (mine does), then you can drop it before that date without GPA-related consequences. Look at your handbook or ask your adviser. If the deadline to drop a class (late or otherwise) was a while ago, they may tell you that you can’t drop without getting a withdraw (W) on your transcript.

Financial aid: You’ll have to ask them or see if it’s explained somewhere. You should have somewhere that tells you the rules of your financial aid. It may be affected if you go below the number of credits required to be a full-time student.

How do you know you will fail? Have you been going to office hours and getting additional help? Have you contacted your professor to ask how you can improve?

How many units are you taking and what will it drop to? Your aid is based on a certain amount of units. If you drop and go below you could owe money. You have to complete a certain amount of the class before it is paid for.

Check your student handbook, it usually tells you what you have to do to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. If you don’t, your aid can be denied for the next semester.
