I want to drop an elective class that I’m taking. It’s really easy, and I have an A, but it’s also extremely annoying and I can’t stand being in class. I absolutely hate it. Instead, I’d be a TA for my favorite teacher. Since it’s just an elective, do I have to tell colleges about my plans to drop? If so, what’s the general procedure, and would it have an effect on my admission? I have 9 AP classes under my belt and the rest of my classes were the hardest level available. This class I want to drop is so easy it makes me want to pull my hair out.

In general, schools do not like to see classes dropped second semester. However, if you meet their requirements for admission and will graduate without the class it would not seem to be a problem, particularly when you are replacing it with what should be a solid academic experience.

However, I might drop a note describing your change to schools that have accepted you, if/when you are accepted.

If you have already committed to a school, or have an acceptance from the school you want to attend, I would get on the phone with an admissions rep or send a not/e-mail before you make the change, just to be safe.
