If I dropped AP Calculus, how bad would that be for most schools and UC? Should i re-take Trig or just take a random class? Thanks!

Well. In my AP Calculus class, a friend of mine just couldnt handle the workload and he dropped the class second semester. He was accepted by UF by then so I dont think it matters much after you've been accepted. Could be otherwise if not.

Is there a non AP Calc class that you could transfer into, instead of dropping math entirely? It could be bad for UC's, and you also do need to contact the colleges to let them know your change of schedule.

I just found out I got a D today in AP Calculus and my teacher told me nicely to never come back.

I'm contacting the UCs tomorrow and in the mean time, I'm retaking trig so I can get my foundations in better check so it won't be as bad when I retake Calculus in college.

Well, the only response so far was UCSB. They said it was fine. I'm retaking Trig right now. Hope this helps. I'm in a very similiar situation.

Your teacher told you nicely to never come back? What an ass!

I got an E second quarter in AP Calc, then an E on the midterm, and I was expecting a "never come back" speech, and I had the whole, "You don't know me, you don't know what I'm capable of you, you little stupid highschool know-it-all math teacher piece of..."

But then she never said anything to me.

I now have a B.

LOL.

This is the way I see it: if you're on a semester system, you already got an E in AP Calc. Dropping it will not erase that. I chose to keep AP Calc on my schedule b/c I'm on a full year system. I know I'm already screwed for all of the schools that do midyear check ups, so I don't want to jeapordize my admission to the UCs by dropping a class. I think I can pull off a final grade of C, which is FINE once you are admitted.

An E is another story, though. If you think you're going to keep failing whatever class you want to drop, drop it. You will definitely get your admission rescinded if you fail. If you drop and inform, you still have a chance. Why not call and specifically ask if that would affect an already recieved acceptance. I suggest taking a math class. AP Stat or something. Don't retake a class. If you can't get into AP Stat, drop to honors calc, and in the worst case scenario, take a class that is non math but NOT bs.

Groovinhard, to a person who's under the letter grade system of "A-B-C-D-F", that "E" grade will be in between the letter grade D and F to us. If so, and if you received an E grade for the first semester in AP Calculus, you are in jeapordy since UC system requires all seniors who wish to attend to one of their UC schools must maintain an average of 3.0 GPA AND must not have any grade that is a D or lower.

Maybe you already know this, maybe you did not receive a D as a semester grade; misunderstanding on my part. But just in case.
