I am still taking a few college/university courses in year. I've already finished 1, and am continuing with others. However, despite my usual love economics, I found particular economics course to be excruciating boring. How would dropping this course affect my university placement chances?

If college courses are only used to evaluate an applicant's ability to handle university-level courses, then I think I have already demonstrated that with my other university and AP courses. I did briefly mention this course (the one I want to drop) on my university applications.

It probably won't matter much. Taking college courses shows that you enjoy learning and are willing to go beyond high school-level and challenge yourself in what interests you. So dropping an excruciatingly boring class makes sense.

If you drop the economics course before the official withdrawal deadline, no one will know or care because it won't show on your transcript. If you're doing well in the course, I would stick with it.

I was wondering the same thing. I just completed sociology (with a 99% average) and am now taking psychology from from the same teacher. The subject matter personally does not interest me but I am reluctant to drop the course because I am afraid it will affect my chances of getting accepted to my top colleges.

I think that I missed the "drop deadline" by a week.

why do you guys care about the drop deadline so much? If this economics course is the only one I'm taking at this college (I'm taking my other courses at another university), can't I just not send them (ie the universities I'm applying to) my transcript from this particular college?

I would think that if you disclosed that you were taking the course in your applications, the admissions folks would notice that it's now missing. Don't most colleges include language in their applications/policies that they expect you to complete the coursework that you disclose to them?

My son was accepted ED, so his situation is not directly on point, but last week he received permission from Columbia to drop one of his seven AP courses. Perhaps you could email your admissions counselor (as my son did)?

If I dropped a course would I really be required to let all of the colleges that I applied to know since I've already submitted my midyear report? Does a drop on a transcript look really bad?

user, I would ask permission if and only if I were willing to keep the course. My son's view was that if Columbia pushed back on the drop, he would keep the course. I believe that if you explain your position thoughtfully, and you sense any resistance to the drop, and you keep the course, you will not be adversely affected.
