Dropping Courses During Senior Year

Hello. My friend has submitted all of her applications, on which she listed her senior year courses. She is taking AP Statistics, AP Gov’t, and AP English Lit. She currently has a D in AP Statistics but is debating whether or not to drop the class. I (and her guidance counselor) have advised her that it would look better if she dropped the course than if she had a D in the course, but she is worried that colleges may be upset by the fact that she has falsely listed courses to make her application more attractive. Our semester ends this Friday, so she has a small timeframe in which to make her decision. If anyone could offer a bit of insight, we’d both appreciate it.

Thanks so much :),

Caitlin

Well, which is worse, getting a D in the course or dropping the course? In my opinion, getting a D is definitely worse. What will your friend take instead of AP stats? If it's something at least comparable in difficulty, at least an honors-level course, and if she's taking a few other AP courses, I doubt colleges would consider it too much. Of course, it depends on the level of the colleges that she's applying to.

But definitely drop the course. A D is not your friend.
