I’ve been a member of the robotics team at my school since freshman year. Now that I’m a junior, I’ve encountered the problem that the team isn’t really my thing, so it’s not really fun for me anymore. There’s also a number of administrative/social issues I have with the team. I’m also heavily involved with my theater program and academic team (with leadership in both). I also joined Science Olympiad this year just to see how I’d like it. Would it look bad if I dropped robotics (i.e. lack of commitment)? Should I stick with it?
You don’t need to spend the next two years in an activity you don’t like. IMO as long as you find something else to get involved in, that is fine.
If you don’t like it - don’t do it! You can’t base your decisions on what some nameless AdCom might be looking for down the road.
I would say if you drop robotics, you should replace it with something (or spend more time on something you already do.)
Also, if you look at the big picture, HS should be a time where you try many things and see what sticks.
You like working in a team (Theater, Science Olympiad) but just not that particular team.
Thanks for your responses!
My son dropped robotics for chamber singers. I have no idea if it hurt, but he was a lot happier and is now in college and doing well. Happiness over hype.
Enjoy your last 2 years of HS! Say bye to robotics and don’t look back.
