Dropping Foreign Language and Trying to Rank Up - Help

1st question - In what way could I pass a dozen or so people. I am around top 5% at my school (my school is large and extremely competitive)
(I am willing to work intensively. No, it is not a matter of egotism, just want to increase HPA/GPA so I might as well see how high I can climb.)

2nd question - Would eliminating foreign language for my senior year hurt my chances with ivies/selective schools? I would be going into the highest level of Spanish next year, assuming I took it - AP Spanish literature (I already took AP/AICE). I’m just bored of it/ find it unchallenging and would rather fill the slot with class of interest / more time to do stuff I’m interested in.

My schedule for senior year would be:

  1. AP Physics 1
  2. AP Chemistry
  3. AP Calculus AB
  4. AP Eng Literature
  5. AP Govt (1st semester only)

AND either

  1. Online AP Statistics on FLVS (2nd semester only) OR
  2. AICE Spanish AL - FULL YEAR in class

It’s out of your control for the most part. It presupposes that 12 people get worse grades than you. Just worry about your own grades. If you are in the top 5%, then top 3 or 4% will not make or break your college application.

No. Colleges that ask for level 4 of a foreign language doe not give brownie points for getting to level 5.

top 5% v. top 4% makes no difference .
IIf you have level 4 of a foreign language and don’t want to take level 5, take something you’re interested in.

Even if someone could answer your question, it would assume that the people ahead of you in terms of GPA are staying stagnant-- not worrying at all about someone trying to climb over them in the race to the top.

I would only continue with Spanish if you have a particular interest in it.
