Dropping foreign language?

Next year, my school is slimming down to 7 periods from the 8 we have currently. Because of this, one of my electives had to be cut. Right now my electives are Latin I, Spanish II, and A.P. Human Geo. My IB counselor basically told me I couldn't do DE Spanish III next year, which is what I would be in. Will it look bad on my transcript to see that I quit Spanish after II, but continued in Latin?

bump

Well what year are you? That depends how many? Three (Often 2 but 3 is better) foreign language credits is usually good to get into a good college. But depending on what grade you are in that determines how much time you have to get 2-3 credits

I’m a freshman right now. I’m not doing this by choice-I want to keep doing Spanish, but I can’t. At the end of the year I’ll have 2 Spanish credits and 1 Latin credit. I’m going to keep doing Latin until I graduate.

Oh yes that is actually perfectly fine then. Most people take one type of foreign language and just quit after they meet the bare minimum requirements to graduate. In my opinion I think that colleges would see more in you in the fact that you took two languages in the same year.

Just have one language with at least three credits in and the other language will be seen as you expanding your learning variety which colleges will appreciate over taking an easy elective.

You can’t control your school’s schedule and offerings, and colleges will understand this, If you go through Latin IV you’ll be fine, but I have to wonder about what type of school in this country does not offer Spanish III as part of its curriculum.

@skieurope We do have Spanish III. We are going from 8 periods in a school day to 7. Basically, our school day next year will be shorter. Our counselor said that students wouldn’t be allowed to take more than one foreign language as a result due to Latin II and Spanish III being during the same class period next year.

Thanks for clarifying.
