I am dropping an honors level course and going into a regents level one. I try as hard as i can and i still have a C+. All my other classes are regents to besides math which is honors and i hav an A. In all my other classes i hav A's. So should i still dorp this honors class although its one of my only two honors classes? A C+ would murder my gpa, which alredy isnt so good from freshman year. I am trying to get better grades and improve my GPA and so far its going well except for this C+. Would colleges not accept me because of this decision? I'm only a sophmore by the way.

help please!

My son went through this same quandary at least twice that I can recall. There is no “right” answer. As a sophomore, you have another year or year and a half to improve your gpa even if you do get a C+ as your final grade, but you will be showing your initiative and willingness to challenge yourself. Plus, if you are doing well in your other courses, you will also be showing an upward curve in your grades which is also important to adcoms.

On the otherhand, you will also have a year and a half to show that you can challenge yourself in other honors courses.

Other criteria to consider might be what course is it? One which is in an area of possible interest or major in the future? Is it a foundation course in an area you will take others in the future? A subject area which if you don’t take the honors you will either not be allowed by your school , or be afraid yourself to take honors in the future? Will studying harder for this course adversely affect the effort you can put into your other classes?

FWIW, my son decided not to drop his two harder courses, spoke to his teachers, and wound up getting B+'s. He was glad he did.

ooo i think i will drop the course but thanks alot for your help.
