Dropping from UC to a CC, THEN transferring???

Hey,

I just completed freshman year at UCR and ended up with a 2.2 GPA. Im afraid that I wasnt prepared to take engineering classes, so i was thinking of dropping and going to a CCC this year and apply to transfer to another UC thats closer to home. I was wondering about how TAG works.

Can I transfer credits from UC to a CCC?

My gpa at UCR was utter ****. Is this going to be calculated into my CCC grades as well?

Is there any chance I can apply to TAG this coming Nov. for Fall 2011? Do I have the whole year to meet the GPA requirement for TAG?

Should I not be able to do the above, can I spend 2 years at the CCC to transfer? Is there a units taken limit to TAG xfering?

Thanks guys!

well if u plan on transferring to another UC then i think you should have the UC reciprocity thing going on, so you should be fine there

the gpa will deff follow you, but not to the ccc. when u apply for the UCs again, then you’ll be haunted by it i think

hell to the no.

yep, i think your best bet would be to spend another 2 years at a ccc to bring up ur gpa to qualify for tag. there is a units limit, but idk much about that. talk to a counselor perhaps?

You can’t transfer credit per-say from UC to CCC but it will transfer once you transfer

How many units have you completed at UCR?

For application purposes ALL your coursework will be calculated into admission decisions. You might be screwed for UCB/UCLA but you should still be able to TAG

You have 0 chance to TAG this fall and if you apply this fall you will be rejected from everywhere

conditions for TAG is(Among others )

has completed the last 30 semester or 45 quarter UC-transferable units at one or more California community colleges, excluding AP/IB credit;

has been enrolled at one or more California community colleges for at least two terms, excluding summer sessions;

You can transfer a max of 70 semester units

The biggest problem is you definitely gotta work on a 4.0 in CC

If i do my math correctly you should have 45-50~ish quarter units?

and you can have a max of 115 quarter transferable units so with a 4.0 you’ll be near a 3.3 and it get significantly harder if you get less

I’ll just assume 50 units completed x 2.2 is 110 grade points

65 left x 4.0 = 260

So with a 4.0 you’ll be at a 3.2

however if you get a few B’s

65 x 3.7 = 3.04

So the lowest you can get is ~ 3.7 work hard and you will be fine

bravo^
10char

Actually you do not have a chance to transfer to some of the UC schools for fall 2011 admission. This is because some of the UC’s (including UCI and others) state that the TAG applicant must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA by summer of 2010 (a.k.a. right now) for fall 2011 TAG admission.

Thanks for the responses, esp peterr86

so right now i get the feeling that i am screwed for xferring this year so ill be 1 year behind. I was thinking of taking at least 1 more quarter at ucr to raise that gpa a bit and to assess if i could actually pull through.

Does tag count ap credits? Whats the limit to the number of units i can have?

you need 30 units completed to at CC just for TAG and have to be at CC for 2 terms aka Fall/Spring .

AP credits doesn’t count toward those 30 units as well
