Dropping out of 1st Semester. HELP

I'm a Spring admit, and right now, I'm taking classes at East Los Angeles College, which if you don't already know, is pretty ****ty. I'm taking Statistics, English 101 (to satisfy 1st half of RC req.), History, and Poli Sci. (I know all classes are transferable through assist.org). I work a full time job from 9-5 so I've been taking night classes. And I have to tell you, they SUCK!!! My stats teacher hardly speaks any English, and I'm basically teaching myself. The same goes for all of my other classes. My English class is easier than the one I took my freshman year of high school!

I hate attending class because it feels like an absolute waste of my time. If I drop my classes now, I will have 4 "W's" on my transcript.

1) Can I drop all of the classes and just not forward the transcript to Berkeley?
2) Can I just drop the worst ones (Poli Sci is decent) and forward my transcript to Berkeley with 3 W's?
3) Will any W's on my transcript look really bad?
4) Can I still manage to graduate with the rest of the Class of 2011 if I start a semester late? (Summer school?)
5) Should I just stick to the program!?

HELP!!!

P.S. I hope to major in poli sci, mass comm, or bus admin

Those Ws WILL come back to haunt you, mija.

i'm doing the same thing at pasadena city college.

when i was applying, i didn't put any information indicating i was going to uc berkeley in the spring.

i'd imagine that even if i don't show up to class for the rest of the semester and get F's it wouldn't matter because i don't think PCC will transfer those grades anywhere else. you should ask people from East LA to make sure though.

as for number 4, yes you can. i asked people the same question (even a counselor from UC Berkeley named Anthony) and they said yes we can graduate with the rest of the Class if we take summer school.

spring admits unite! :)

that's it! i'm going to make sure my transcripts don't get transferred, withdraw from these crap courses, and start fresh @ Cal in the spring... then i'm going to stay 12 weeks during the summer to complete an additional semester!

thnx mechrocket, ily <3

lol

be careful

I went to four different colleges before finishing my degree 25 years ago. Many many times, I am asked to forward ALL of my college transcripts (for grad classes and jobs).

Your college record becomes your permanent record.

dood, just do it, get the easy A's that way u don't have to do them @ cal.

mechrocket u go to PCC?? haha that's my home town

lol i live in arcadia, but pasadena is a pretty place.

how will the CC grades count @ Berkeley? will they be a part of my Berkeley gpa or are they just kind of credited but not really? errrrrgh.

i think they may count as p/np, and don't get into ur UC gpa, but i'm not sure. either way, you're getting rid of a ton of pre-reqs so you can take cooler classes.

couldn't you just not forward your transcripts from community college? how would they know...?

haha

Well how it works with my CC district, you don't have to forward grades if you don't want to. However, if you choose to send Berkeley your grades, it will send all the grades of everything you ever took in that particular district. I know cuz I totally neglected a CC class that I took in high school and I never sent that F to Berkeley. Of course that means that you can no longer take classes at that CC district if you want to send your grades. In my case, it didn't really matter cuz I haven't taken a CC course since then and I live close by to another CC in another district in case I choose to take a CC course.

I don't have anything relevant to say except...Oooo, ELAC..Ouch.

Do you go to La Cantina (I think that's what it's called) near the BOA and MP Hospital on Atlantic? They make the best tacos there. They fry the shell when you order. Mmmm, I miss it.

I knew ELAC was whack from the beginning.... but I figured, "it can't be THAT bad." Maybe the honors program is better, but man, these night classes... these "professors"... ridiculous. I'm going to withdraw from all of them and start at Cal. I don't care to take an easy class if I'm really just throwing away my time and gas. I'd rather take something more stimulating (at least I hope so, lol) at Berkeley and stay the summer.

I have to try La Cantina though... thx for the suggestion. I heard Rio's Pizza is pretty good too, but I have yet to try.

I found this thread interesting.

BerkeleyLATINA, tienes que entregar toda tu informacion! As a transfer student, i omitted one of my grades, which was alg 2 ( i got an A in the class) but i ommitted it because it was an HS course i took in college and i didnt think it had any effect on my college record. But when i spoke with the counselor, she was like "Good thing you told me, because if you wouldnt have, it would have been a rejection" So she fixed the thing and my acceptance was still good =)

Moral of the story is: finish the classes! dont get the Ws and dont omit the record!

It sounds like the OP wants to drop all the courses she's currently taking. People might need to interrupt their educations for any number of reasons (jobs, finances, health, etc.). If she has reasons for dropping the classes, I don't think withdrawing from all of them would be the end of the world. Needing to work full time would make this course load difficult to manage, even if the classes were really easy. Would colleges really want transcripts for courses that were never completed?

Just don't forward it. Wow, they won't know and your problems are solved. Bingo!

i'm dropping them... my transcript won't be forwarded, and i'm going to complete my 4 years @ Cal... thank you to everyone who responded, your insight really helped!

see you guys in january! :)
