Let me propose a hypothetical situation. Let's say that a student decides to attend a college, but because he/she dislikes the institution to such an extent, decides to drop out. Also, this student hasn't stayed long enough to receive credits. Will he/she be able to apply to colleges again without negative consequences from his/her action, or will dropping out ruin chances of admission to college? Assume that the student goes to a top school and was a top applicant academically.

any thoughts?

Is anyone familiar with this type of situation?

It depends. If the student dropped out/withdrew from all of his/her classes and got a refund from the school, perhaps he/she could say he changed his mind and decided to take a gap year. But-take a look at college applications and see exactly what thye want to know when the applicant is asked something along the lines of, “Have you ever enrolled in any college since graduating from HS?” Or, simply call an admissions office or two and ask them.
