Dropping out of UCI ....advice?

Hi,
I transferred from a CC to UCI in 2008 (3rd year transfer Psychology&Social Behavior major). The only problem is I want to change my major to Communicative Disorders/Speech Pathology but UCI does not have this major.

Should I transfer to a Cal State instead or should I stick it out at UCI? If I stay at UCI and apply to Speech Pathology Grad Programs I will have to take pre-reqs in speech pathology and it will take me an extra year to get my MA in Speech Pathology. I don't know what to do. Honestly, I don't think I am enjoying my experience at UCI.

Well you only have to spend one more year at UCI. If you transfer, you’re gonna have to spend an additional 2 years at that college because for most schools you’ll need to spend at least the equivalent of 2 years worth of units there in order to get a degree. This is why most schools do not allow senior transfers.

Yes transfer. If that isn’t your field of interest then why go the school that doesn’t provide it. Not everyone is successful coming out of UC. I know people who still live at home with their mothers. Our economy is in recession. So do what your good at and love it so you have an edge over the people in the same field who hate their jobs.

i find it ridiculous. you’re trying to transfer for a specific major and you have no idea what the major will really be like once you’re there or if you’ll even like it. Additionally like the person above mentioned, most schools require you to do a minimum of 2 years at their campus, so transferring now will put you at junior standing come fall. That’s on top of the fact that most schools don’t accept students for senior standing. Just take the pre-reqs at UCI.

You are both wrong, most schools require a minimum of 1 year at that school, including the UCs

they do not take senior transfers BUT they do not require 2 years at their school either. UCLA requires for residency that the last 35 of your 45 is done at UCLA for example- that is 1 year.

However usually you have enough school / major specific courses to take tht require additional units.

liek0806,UCI does not offer any of the pre-reqs that I need to take. I have been volunteering and shadowing a speech pathologist at a local elementary school. I am 100% certain it’s the field that I want to go into. Unfortunately, I didn’t discover that until I was already halfway done with my first year at UCI.

Thanks for all the advice. I will most likely end up staying at UCI and finishing my senior year. What a waste of time and money. Haha.

Is there some kind of speech pathology graduate program?
