Dropping physics...

First off I'm a sophomore chemE at purdue. I want to drop physics (electricity & optics) because the professor blows, and because I don't think I can handle the course right now (forgot most of my calculus 1/calculus 2 material..will remember it quickly though). I got a C in mechanics.

I'm facing a moral dilemma.. basically I can have either 14 credits this semester, or 17 for both semesters. If I do 14 credits now, I have to take online courses over summer to make up for 3 credits in gen-eds.

My question is, which of the following schedules would be tougher:

3rd semester
CHE 200 - Seminar - 0 cr
CHE 205 - Material Balances/Che calculations - 3 cr
CHM 261 - Organic Chem 1 - 3 cr
CHM 263 - Organic Chem Lab 1 - 1 cr
MA 261 - Multivariate Calculus - 4 cr
PHYS 241 - Electricity & Optics - 3cr
17 credits - 14 without phys, and my grades would be much higher in these courses.

OR

4th semester
CHE 211 - ChemE Thermodynamics - 3 cr
CHE 320 - Statistical Modeling - 3 cr
CHM 262 - Organic Chem 2 - 3 cr
CHM 264 - Organic Chem Lab 2 - 1 cr
MA 262 - Linear Alg & Diff eq - 4cr
PHYS 241 - Electricity & Optics

-17 credits - if I take physics 3rd semester I take a 3 cr gen ed instead

I think I would find third semester easier... Calculus 3 is very easy, or atleast it was to me. So that means that you will have only two tough classes, which is E&M and orgo (I am a CS major so I have no idea how tough orgo is, but E&M shouldn't be that bad...).

Hm... doesn't calculus depend on the school though? From what I see right now, I have no idea what the hell we are doing (3d graphing.. weird??)

By the way it's electricity and optics.. not sure about magnetism. Either way, the material right now is like totally , the professor did like nothing but integrals and in lecture today.. and nobody had any idea ** was going on either...

Personally I think orgo is easy because I'm good at the courses where you study a lot and just rememorize ****.. (like AP bio), and I think material balances is very easy too.. I'm just worried about physics and math, honestly. I got a B in calc 1, and an A in calc 2, but calc 3 looks too hard.. and physics looks INSANE right now..

It might depend on the school... Calculus and physics are known to be weeder courses here at Illinois, but I thought they weren't that bad. (CS courses are so much harder...)

Isn't the physics your taking the second year physics?

yep. it just looks really hard, it's only the second week and we're doing stuff like gauss's law.. i had no idea what was happening in lecture today, the prof was integrating like everything..

If you think you can't handle physics 2 at current state, I would advise you to take the course at some CC during the summer. CC physics should be much easier than your current physics class at Purdue.
