dropping spanish 4

ive never been good at foreign languages im currently just clinging to a B- in Spanish 4 which is very low for me. I normally would try to tough it out and work at it but I had a talk with my teacher. She told me I am lacking some of the fundamentals and highly recommends me to drop it because it's not gonna be possible for me to succeed with me lacking in the basics. I currently have no problem dropping this class and Id rather learn the language at my own pace. My concern is how colleges would view this. Im not applying to any super competitive schools just several public universities basically the Big Ten sports conference. If I were to explain Im lacking in the basics and my teacher recommended I drop the class would there really be a problem. I listed this class as one of my 1st and 2nd semester current courses. So I believe if I drop this class I am required to notify all the colleges I applied to.

So to recap:
Should I drop the class?
Would it really effect a decision if its just one less semester?
Am I required to notify all the colleges I applied to of the schedule change?

I dont no if this is really that big of a deal but every college presentation i went to said if your senior schedule changes you are required to notify us.

Also what impact would it have if I just forgot to notify the colleges.

I doubt it would it would be a tie breaker between getting accepted to a university or not for the big ten
