The DRT for the FAFSA is not working for me as the parent, but my daughter is able to use it. Facebook posts have said it is very spotty as well. Anyone have issues today? Tomorrow is another day, I guess …
I thought I was losing my mind! We have made a FAFSA ID for our student, and a FAFSA ID for my husband but when we get to the LINK page for the DRT, it says our ID is wrong. We have checked it numerous times. Is this what you are talking about???
Well, that could be another problem too.
What I’m talking about is it lets you log into your parent ID and transfers you to the IRS website. It asks you to put in your address to further match you with your return. You get to the point where you hit the transfer button and it loops back to asking you for your address.
Maybe on the ID, make sure it is for the right parent. IE, your husband is filled in as parent #1 (that’s what we did here, since my husband is listed first on the return). It accepts the ID but the stuff doesn’t transfer.
Any independent grad students here? DD needs to complete the fafsa. I would like her to be able to use the DRT…for ease of completion.
Anyone in this boat having trouble with the DRT?
worked for us today
I had an issue with my FAFSA ID. Both kid and I created the IDs about 10 days ago, and they were verified. However, today when I tried to use the parent ID to use the IRS tool, there was an error. I checked my account, and could see it was enabled and verified. I tried all 3 methods of username/password thinking that was the issue, and the respond was the same, they didn’t have me in the system. Turns out when I created the ID, there was a typo in my birthdate, and the mismatch was causing the error. I was very pleased with how helpful there were at the Federal Student Aid Information hotline, and really glad they took calls on a Sunday. As soon as I’m verified again, I’ll try the retrieval tool. I’m posting this for anyone that may have an FAFSA ID error…, while I checked the enable status and the verification, I didn’t think to check all the data I initially entered.
I put myself as parent 2 and it said it found my return. Yet when I click transfer now, nothing happens and it returns me to the address screen. Over and over.
It worked for our daughter as well, but we wound up entering our tax return data manually.
@bearcatfan, have you tried a different browser? And disabled popup blocker?
@mommdc I tried all that - even a different computer.
I finally gave up and entered information manually, and ordered a tax transcript just in case.
@twinsmama That’s exactly what was happening with mine. It found it, but wouldn’t send it over.
Oh well. It’s done, lol.
You can go back into the FAFSA later…and try to link to the DRT.
Even without the DRT, I found out that the FAFSA is actually really short and easy. What a disappointment after all the buildup!
Profile wasn’t too bad either!
The CSS PROFILE for 2018-2019 seems to be more streamlined than previous years, but their website seemed overwhelmed today and crashed several times while I was working on it. Earlier today, I attempted to submit the application and my credit card was charged, but the PROFILE site crashed before it could accept the application. I returned to the website a few minutes ago and my payment was recorded so I resubmitted the application. Even with a high speed internet connection, I took about 7 minutes to get an acknowledgment back. We’re still unable to download a PDF record copy of what we submitted. I presume their IDOC site will open on November 1 as it did last year.
Is anyone who is having issues with the DRT a divorced parent?
What is an IDOC site?
The IDOC is part of the College Board’s CSS PROFILE which a considerable number of colleges require for receiving institutional financial aid. The IDOC system allows students and parents to upload specific documents the colleges request for financial aid decisions, such as tax returns and W-2s.
