Do drug suppliments before the SAT, such as Ritalin, or stuff found in energy drinks like Taurine, Caffine, or B Vitimans help when taking the SAT?

In general no. Ritalin yes. The main factor is that the test is over 4 hours, which is enough time for most drugs to start wearing off, and having a comedown during a test seems horrible to me.

energy drinks will not work because they will most likely cause a crash half way through the test... ritalin or adderal would definitely help though.

Okay, what if I took another energy drink halfway through the test? Is the problem with energy drinks that you'll do better on the first half, and worse on the second, or that it just doesn't help at all, and then you do worse on the 2nd half?

It really depends on how your body reacts to energy drinks. If you get all jittery that's not gonna help your test scores at all. If you don't get tired at the midpoint of the test I don't see the point of taking any caffeine in the first place.

i guess you could snort adderall/ritalin if you're into that kind of thing, i know some people who have

Sigh. I am so sick of this conversation coming up. There should be a sticky post that says, "Don't do it; it's just stupid and a myth that those drugs work if you don't have ADHD."

I have two family members with ADHD. The drugs they've had to try to get the right med and dose, are not something you should just try. They're stimulants, and they don't calm you down or focus you if you don't have ADHD. The ADHD brain works differently. And the side effects aren't fun (one family member developed a tremor from Adderall. Just try concentrating while your arm is twitching violently all the time.).

Energy drinks are almost as bad. They're loaded with sugar and/or caffeine and will make you nervous and make your heart race. Plus, you'll crash -- HARD -- when they wear off.

You want to do well on the SAT? Prepare for it. Take practice tests, know your fundamentals. Eat well. That means good fruits like bananas or apples, granola bars, tuna, peanut butter, chicken, eggs, other high-protein foods. Don't load up on carbs, because they'll make you sluggish. Drink water, not crap loaded with sugar or caffeine (unless you already drink a lot of caffeine, because suddenly cutting that out can lead to withdrawal, esp. nasty headaches).

B vitamins in general are good for stress, but don't overdo it and start loading up on them. 50mg a day is plenty. Take a good multi, though.

Hope this helps.

well for the energy drinks it really depends on how you react to it. I guess drinking a second one half way though would keep you alert, but you might get a stomachache...

"ritalin or adderal would definitely help though."

No, there is no such thing as any drug "DEFINITELY" helping your performance on the SAT. It just doesn't work that way. Maybe one of the reading passages should be about this topic!!

Please don't spread ignorance and myths about these drugs. You people have NO idea what you're talking about.

Because Adderall uses amphetamine stimulants to help the user concentrate for extended periods of time, many students today request Adderall from doctors in order to use it as a study aid. Thus, it is increasingly popular on college campuses. The largest benefit to students is Adderall's ability to give students the power to learn and study what would usually be uninteresting material. Thus it is used extensively by students wishing to pull all-nighters to study for tests. Because of the appetite-suppressing properties of amphetamines, it is also sought after by those wishing to lose weight. Another less common use for students is to take Adderall before or during a night of heavy drinking in order to remain alert and active despite being intoxicated.Source: Wikipedia

Obviously it's not just a cure for ADHD, is it?

Getting drug information from Wikipedia is asking for trouble.

Honestly here is my input and i have tried it.

I am a frequent energy drink drinker, and i know how my body reacts. I knew drinking it before, would be unwise because it would cause me to crash later. So i drank it at the break, and i ended up doing way better on the second half (at least i felt better). So if you know how you react to it, go for it.

I am contemplating whether i should drink it before the test, and at break. I always drink monster/red bull like regular drinks (milk, orange juice, soda) , and i dont think i would react negatively, because i have drank 2 in a 4 hour sitting before, so i will try this , this june.

Its different for everyone, the effects of an Energy Drink on one person is most likely going to be different on another person.

For example, I hardly drink any energy drinks or coffee, I know that if I took any of those before the test, or during, it would most likely effect my train of thought in a negative way

As Azngamer54 said, he is a freq. energy drink drinker and knows how his body reacts to it, so it was alright for him to take it when he did.

So in the end, if you know how your body reacts to certain stimulants and you think it will help you concentrate more, then try it out a few times in class or something and if you feel it would help you on the SAT then do it. For me, I know it would never help me.

*note: I don't know much about the effects of ritalin or anything like that, this post is just regarding Energy Drinks.

Good Luck Qwerty.

i'd say...TEST IT OUT FIRST....see what works and what doesn't...

DONT OVERDO VITAMINS. not even kidding. I drank like 5 vitamin waters including 2 on test morning and took a vitamin c tablet the night before the test. It was peeing it out all throughout the test. And it's not an "I can hold it pee" Its a squirm around can't concentrate i have no pee hold in muscles kind of pee. I had to go every 2 sections. I can't believe i still finished, but it was not a good experience.

Um, ok. Wikipedia isn't exactly the most reliable source. Most of the content posted there isn't written by professionals.

Just because people use it to try to concentrate, doesn't mean it's a good idea. And it's illegal to get it any way other than with a legitimate prescription, so it's also just a stupid thing to do. No reputable doctor would give it to anyone who doesn't have ADHD or other issues that warrant its use.

why don't you just study and prep yourself?
taking stuff to help you concentrate is not the way to go.
