<p>I've heard several people say that "everyone does drugs at Oberlin." I'm pretty sure this is an exaggeration (also none of these people actually go to Oberlin), but I'm wondering, exactly how prevelant are drugs at Oberlin? I know there are drugs at almost every college,but is it that most people at Oberlin do it, or is it more average like at any other college?</p>
<p>Oberlin students don’t use drugs any more than students at other colleges. Don’t believe some of the total B.S. that you hear from people who do not attend the school and don’t have children who attend the school. I read a ridiculous post by someone on another college’s forum that students run naked through the streets at Oberlin and copulate out in the open in broad daylight in Tappan Square. Half the student body does this, according to that poster.</p>
<p>My D is a student at Oberlin. The most “druggy” thing she’s seen is a glimpse of a marijuana plant in a flower pot in some idiot freshman’s room. I doubt if he’s back for his sophomore year.</p>
<p>I suppose like anywhere else, if you want drugs you can find them. But people aren’t walking around stoned, if that’s what you’re wondering. If visited dozens of times, weekends and weekdays, and the school is so normal it’s almost boring. In a good way.</p>
<p>Count me in as an Oberlin student/alum who has never taken any drugs during his time in college…or for his life for that matter. </p>
<p>Only possible exceptions are an occasional morning cup of coffee as a tasty treat, using rock music to wakeup/keep energized during the day, and once in a blue moon bottle/glass or two of beer/wine with some friends after college. :D</p>
<p>While I do know some Obies use drugs, I’m not sure one can definitively say that most do…unless you include coffee and listening to music. :D</p>

<p>Drugs are here, like at any other school. But they’re certainly not everywhere, and they’re not in your face at all. The other thing is that there’s extraordinarily little peer pressure about anything at Oberlin. If someone chooses not to use – and lots of students make that choice – people respect that, period.</p>
<p>For my first two years I was a substance-free member of what’s reputedly the most drugged-out living space on campus, and it was a complete non-issue. There were many other people who didn’t use, and there were always sober people around doing interesting things; what use there was was way overstated, and took place behind closed doors. You won’t find it unless you go looking for it.</p>
<p>(I’ve also noticed, visiting friends, that the alcohol culture at many other schools is way more prominent and way more obnoxious than drug culture at Oberlin. Your mileage may vary.)</p>
<p>Agree with what’s said above. In my freshman dorm I was more exposed to it than other years because you interact with a much wider range of people, so some people would be outside smoking weed or would be sneaking alcohol in their rooms - mainly just on weekend nights though. I personally never did drugs and there are many other people who don’t. At the same time, I would say that there is a general acceptance of weed at Oberlin, and most people I know have smoked it at some point during college, even if it’s only twice a year or something. Hard drugs are a different matter and while they are out there, it isn’t as common. I think who you’re surrounded by affects how much you’re exposed to it. There’s no pressure and it’s pretty easy to avoid, but it isn’t always completely hidden either.</p>

<p>From kid there now: drugs are there as they are at most schools . . . less pressure to use them at Oberlin than other friends’ schools . . same with alcohol . . . doesn’t think of Oberln as a druggie place . . . lots of “drug-free” and “drugs don’t matter” social spaces and opportunities</p>
