Young people everywhere are at risk.

thankyou everyone for what you've been saying about reed and drugs - reassured a person who plans to accept the admission offer for 2010. soemone said that smokers are respectful of non-smokers, does that mean that if i turn them by 90degrees to protect myself from the smoke being blown at me by the wind direction they wont be offended? i do that at my school at the moment, want to know if id be able to continue :D

also, im a European so ive been waiting til i was 18 (now am) to be able to go anywhere i want, drink whatever i want, and im wondering what the alcohol is at reed? is it all beer and wine? cos thats not my scene. im not a heavy drinker or something, just i prefer rum/tequila/vodka - anything that doesnt give you terrible bad breath and stain your teeth :D

If this is truly what you want, you may want to consider staying in Europe--the legal age for drinking is 21 in Oregon and probably in most, if not all of the states. Many clubs will exclude you from even entering until you are that magic age. That said, alcohol is easily obtained illegally, so if you really want to drink, you can find a way.

metermaid, i totally wish i could stay in europe/change the legal age for things in US to 18. its so dumb as well to stop people going to clubs - who under the age of 21 (or at least 25) can afford to drink large amounts (or any) in a club? i often go out clubbing and all i drink is water - free and it allows me to keep dancing for the next couple of hours.

i quite understand that i will have to drink illegally, something i and everyone i know has been doing at private parties/bars/pubs/planes/etcetc with the full knowledge and cooperation of their parents. ive been a responsible drinker since the age of 16. anyway, not important. the important thing for me is to know that if i want it, i can get it. and u say i can (which i knew), but again im trying to allay fears of mine that im going to be stuck in a "keg culture" with nothing else to drink other than whats in the kegs. yuck.

from what I understand- if clubbing is a big part of your social life- I don't know if Portland/Reed is the place for you.

Students do have parties and they do go out dancing but the workload is pretty intense & a weekend activity may be watching a few episodes of "firefly" or even going out for pizza and right back to the library, just as often as it is hitting the salsa clubs.

Rather than Keg parties every weekend- it seems more to run to having several events a year- Fetish ball is very popular as is Renn Fayre.

I suggest that to clarify any remaining questions you have , to ask the students on Reed lj
