Drugs in college?

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if there is a big drug scene at your school. I go to penn state and don't see many people doing drugs around, but everytime the topic arises (in class, for example), everyone attests to know a bunch of people that smoke weed. Our dorms have smoke detectors, so I guess the people that smoke must do it somewhere deserted on campus.

What school do you go to and what percentage of the students there would you say do drugs and how often?

These two people on my floor got busted for smoking weed on halloween night. They got in big trouble...police came over, arrested them. They're free now but involved in court cases.

I would say close to the majority of the kids at my school have smoked weed at some point during their four year stay here. Kids do get busted, but it's usually the dealers or the people who take no precautions to not get caught.

A few weeks ago some guys I knew were smoking a bowl right outside our dorm, and some RA called school security on them. Our school handles most drug/alcohol incidents internally and legal action is rarely taken from what I can tell.

My school is a small hippie-type LAC, which should explain alot of the above.

My school has its share of hippies, and is pretty lenient on drugs I think. RAs rarely, if ever, call security because of drug consumption, as long as it's done safely. Around half of my floor smokes pot on a semi-regular basis, and everyone knows it. At least half of the entire residence population has tried it at some point, and possibly over a quarter have done it at least once in their college career, I'm sure.

We don't have a "magic forest" right beside our block for no reason ;).

Hey dover, what school do you go to :D

UBC (Canada).

I'd say about 1 in 5 or 6 smoke pot to some degree of regularity. If you don't think that many people smoke at your school, it's probably because they don't want you to know. "the sign of the true stoner is one you don't notice." And to be honest, dorm smoke detectors are not sensitive at all, so smoking in a dorm room is possible. Not that I have ever seen or thought about illegal 'drugs'.

I'd seriously say that AT LEAST 30% of college students smoke pot.

omg, I can't believe you are seriously asking this. And I can't believe there would ever be a question of a legal case. Marijuana, at the very least, is used on nearly every college campus. I don't have statistics, so feel free to disregard what I say, but I find it hard to believe that only 1/5 or 1/6 of college students use pot. I would say it's more like 3/5, or at least a majority, but certainly not on a regular basis or to the point of addiction.

I personally don't smoke pot, and I probably never will. But I really don't think it merits an arrest. I guess I'm saying this because I have siblings that are regular pot smokers, they do it pretty openly, and have never gotten caught. Furthermore, it never affected their test scores so I refuse to believe that marijuana kills brain cells.

But, if one is to do it, they should accept the consequences for doing it where it is prohibited.

Also, it can be done without setting off fire detectors. There are ways to dismantle a fire detector or just crack a window.

I guess the reason I asked this question was to see if even the kids at ivy league or top schools smoke weed just like kids at state, but so far no one has mentioned anything. So, can anyone say if this takes place at elite schools by geeky kids as well?

I think that it's sort of narrowminded to assume that students at elite schools do not smoke pot. Of course they do, they are human too. I don't have personal stories, but I do know of students who do and who go to so-called elite schools. wow

Lol did you go to high school? The biggest stoners are often the nerds/geeks. Watch out

Your location is Berkley, enough said.

i'd say 30% is close to the norm of a college campus (at least in California) and a generous underestimate for Berkeley...

a lot of people smoke pot at USC, no doubt, but it's not something most people go around talking about in public. a good majority people that do smoke are perfectly "normal" and hardly ever talk about pot until they actually smoke it once a week, if that even. i don't consider people who smoke occasionally "stoners" and reserve that term for people who smoke most nights of the week, or who are into paraphernalia. maybe it's just my personal experience, but i'm sure it's a fairly common in college and even high school (depending on where you're from) to know many people that smoke pot, including some of your best friends.

does pot smoke even set off a smoke detector? i know a LOT of stoners and i've never heard of any of them having problems with that. (meanwhile, i get distracted while frying something in my apartment and have to open all the windows asap so mine won't go off)

i don't even think pot smoke in normal use sets off detectors. usually just one wide open window and a well-placed electric fan are enough to keep smoke detectors at bay. you wouldn't believe how well that works for a number of my floormates haha. that and i heard a plastic bag over the alarm works, but that's sounds dangerous...

I went to school in NY, so the pot smokers were mostly the gangster/bronx type. The people who I knew were in honors/ap classes and smoked pot/cigarettes/hookah were mainly indians and pakistani, although a large group of europeans did so as well.

If you're looking for it, you'll find it. If you're not, you'll either never see it or find aways to avoid it.

^^^ exactly
