drugs on the sat

questoin to all:

what is your opinion on taking aderol or another drug to help stay stimulated on the sats. to me it seems like it can only be a positive factor if used correctly and tested before hand... what do you think?

Joking right? Only way I would agree is if you are prescribed otherwise you are looking for permission to take a PRESCRIBED med

I'd try the drug and take a few practice tests and see how it goes. Use the scientific method and get to a conclusion.

If you're used to taking it and it usually helps you focus on tests, it might possibly help you on the SAT. I doubt it though. Adderall makes you focus better, but on the SAT you need to be able to skip tough questions, not get bogged down on them, and you need to move fast. Adderall will keep you from doing these things. It will definitely hurt you if you take it for the first time on testing day. Never do that! I really don't recommend doing this. I have no issues with using Adderall; I just think it's too much of a gamble. SATs are too important to play with.

Although people won't issue legit instructions against the use of Adderall for those who do not need the drug, I still think it's a moral issue that one has to decide whether he or she has the need or will to do.

I second the scientific method. Your test day is NOT an experiment. You should exactly what you're going to do, exactly what you're going to score, and, yes, exactly what you're going to poison your body with. If you want to drug yourself before you test go right ahead. But you just better make sure you're drugged before every one of those practice test too. Similarly, don't take it on all of your practice tests and then on the day of the actual test abstain from taking it. There are roughly 200 unknown questions on the SAT. Isn't that enough uncertainty?

lol
why dont we just all get high off of marijuana
or cocaine
it might stimulate something weird

Hmmm, that's not a bad idea.

I really want to go to Columbia, but maybe now I should go to Colombia :)

HAHAHAHA lmao

I wouldnt reccomend it, and if you do, take a very small dose. And yes, definitely take it beforehand to make sure how your body reacts to it. I took it for a math test I had once, and it was a bad idea. I spent way way way to much time on each problem. For one problem I did literally a full page and a half of work. It will not help on the SAT, I dont think. Maybe more right answers and less mistakes but you'll do significantly less problems.

Do what's better for you. First, be sure you're used to the drug, or else you'll make a big mistake. I am sorry to agree with previous posts, but the SAT is a big deal after all. So be sure of what you're doing.
On the other hand, how much help can you get from taking Adderall? Really, you're only masking a bigger issue, whatever it is. I'd recommend you to try to figure out why you can't score as highly as you'd like on the SAT without drugs, and solve that problem.

I don't like any moral BS though.

If this drug has not been prescribed for you, do not even think about taking it for a test. It will not help you on the test if you do not have a valid prescription for it. Just speaking as a physician and parent.

What's with the dozens of posts all of the sudden about taking Adderall for the SAT/ACT. Is it the new cocaine or something over the past week?

@ dvm258

No, but soon the SAT game will emulate Major League Baseball. Our "star players" will start using "performance enhancing substances" to improve at the "game."

Oh, what a wonderful age we live in!

^^Yeah, but the only difference is that it really doesn't help. It helps ADD kids, NOT regular people. To everyone thinking of raiding the local CVS or Walgreen's: don't do it.

i can't believe everyone is actuaslly serious

If you did it once you will do it again and again and prescripted drugs abuse can cause serious addiction. Hence don't do it

^Blatantly false. Don't just spew stuff you know nothing about. Sorry to be harsh but junk science always gets me.

To the OP, I hope you're not actually going to do this. I highly doubt Adderall will help you on the SAT test. It might help you study for it (even that is debateable) but it will certainly not get you a higher score. Don't bother, it's a waste of money.

Chocolate is the best drug. A cup of hot cocoa right before the SAT=heaven. And the caffeine helps, too. Other drugs- no, but chocolate- YESSSSS. Yummmm. Mmmmmm. (The best way to stay focused is to use the tip of your pencil to point exactly to what you're reading/working on. Just don't let your eyes or mind wander.)

That said, the SAT is a dangerous drug. Frequent use WILL cause addiction. And don't think it isn't true. The SAT was DESIGNED to be addicting. That's how the collegeboard makes its money.
