Drugs

On college p r o w l e r ucsc got a C+ for drugs... a high grade meaning how the people on campus are not really affected by them. Is it true that 90% of the school smokes pot? are drugs really that prevalent?

If you’re looking for it, it won’t be hard to find. But if you aren’t you wont have a problem avoiding it.

The important part is that even if you do end up hanging out with people who smoke weed, nobody is going to force it on you and it’s not a big deal.

I just consider it a shame that so many people seem to regard rampant drug use as a reason for attending (as seen in the topic on this forum for example) when the school has so much more to offer. Academics should be more important to the student than recreational drug use when university-level tuition is involved.

Durgs are a big part of the culture. Why lie and sugar coat? Poter meadow on 420 anyone? People smoking out in the woods?

This being said, if you don’t smoke, if won’t be an issue. Just let people know you’re not interested in “those type of activities.” Most people understand.

I agree cynic… it’d bug me if most of the campus smoked weed, tbh. I don’t look down upon people who do it, but I wouldn’t want to be around people 24/7 that were high all day as I don’t smoke.

Honestly, people who are high 24/7 usually are not very noticeable since they’ve gotten used to functioning while stoned.

I know you didn’t ask that, but I just thought I would throw it out there…

It’s a liberal institution, I’m surprised this is even a concern.

A person who is liberal doesn’t necessarily like drugs. :/

I in no way was implying that a liberal person likes drugs. I think what is at the heart of being liberal is having tolerance. Living around drug users, who might think highly of its usage versus your own contrary ideas, and being copacetic about the situation would be decently liberal. Yet I stand to be corrected 'cause there are so many shades of liberal these days, and I know I’m just asking to be chewed out by a self acclaimed “liberal” scientologist :p

Smoking weed doesn’t, for most people, entail smoking weed 24/7. And enjoying the campus’s tolerance of people’s choice of lifestyle is important, ALONG with enjoying the campus’s overall academic opportunities and awesomeness. It’s not a big deal if people don’t make it a big deal.

@Philos: Ah. Thanks for clarifying. It kind of sounded like you were taking a shot at liberals on a weak basis.

Indeed, tolerance is the most important thing. I’ve heard that people tend to be cool about it if you don’t want to participate. And that “sterile Merrill” is the best place to sneak into the woods and smoke…heh.

If you go to the Porter Meadow, you cannot get written up. If cops come, they tell you to clean up and be safe. RA’s aren’t even allowed to go there. But there are plenty of spots to smoke. That’s really nothing you have to worry about.

Why can you not get written up in Porter Meadow?
